San Antonio Tech Job Fair – Not just for techies!Melanie Tawil
Codeup, Tech Bloc, and Geekdom are organizing their bi-annual San Antonio Tech Job Fair. This is a community event where the local tech talent can connect with employers. It is the perfect place to spend a few hours meeting potential employers with a range of available positions, while networking with the San Antonio community at large!
5:30 – 6:30 PM: Job Fair is open to invited guests only (not open to public yet!)
6:30 – 8:30 PM: Job fair open to public
We at SwipeTrack Solutions are proud to say we will once again be gold sponsors of the event. It is a great opportunity to speak to recruiters from two dozen companies and try to make a good impression! Think of this as a quick screening interview and make sure you are remembered! At the fair, companies will be able to take the candidates they are seriously interested in to the side into the cafeteria area for a more private (and quiet!) interview.
If you plan to attend, please sign up here. Have a copy of your resume on hand as you will be able to upload it right to the sign up form!
We Hired Two People From the April Job Fair!
Our attendance in April paid off because we got lots of great leads and two direct hires from the job fair attendees! Our recruiter, Darrell Crumling, was there meeting candidates he can connect with other IT companies and departments. Darrell is our director of Enterprise and he is definately someone you want to talk to. He is our tech match-maker and when companies approach him to get great clients, you want to be in his list of contacts.
But, we needed people for ourselves. Our Technology Team was swamped with work and looking for a good match. We talked to several people at the fair and met our newest Web Developer, Sophie Kurihara. This is what she says about the fair:
I attended April’s Tech Job Fair as a Codeup student. It was a bit overwhelming at first because I had never been to a job fair before, and there were so many booths and recruiters all over the Doseum! However, I felt a lot better after meeting the SwipeTrack team because of how welcoming and friendly they were. I made sure to follow up with an email the day after letting them know that I was very interested in working for the company. A few days later they reached out, and I had an interview!
Tech Job Fair is not Just For Techies!
Weeks before the job fair started, we had been looking for someone to join our Marketing Department. We had people come in for interviews, but that click where you connect with the candidate and know they will be a good choice for our team eluded us. At the job fair, we met Ivy Gutierrez and interviewed her on the spot in the private section. The following day she came to our office for the second round of interviews and to meet her would-be supervisor Morgan. This is Ivy’s experience:
I had been to several job fairs in San Antonio and it seems every time it was just companies looking for salespeople in small hotel conference rooms. When I saw the San Antonio Tech Job Fair event on Facebook, I knew I wanted to go, even though my degrees are in Communications and Journalism! The event said some companies might be looking for people for marketing and advertising so it seemed worth the shot. When I walked by the SwipeTrack table, I was clutching my last resume and quite unwilling to give it up to someone who needs developers and coders. 😀
Darrell started a conversation with me and insisted to know what I did, even though I told him I would not want to waste his time. When he heard I had experience with content marketing, he turned me over to Melanie (the CEO) and things progressed quickly. I met Melanie around 7PM that evening and 20 hours later I had been through two interviews and was presented with a job offer. I started the following Monday!
Do you plan to attend the Tech Job Fair on September 26th? If so, give us a shoutout on social media or message us. We are looking forward to meeting you there!
